Encrypted Connections Now Required for Sending Email

Published: 2025-04-24

To enhance the security and privacy of our email services, we are no longer allowing unencrypted connections to our SMTP server for sending email. This change is part of our ongoing commitment to protect user data and prevent unauthorized access to sensitive information during transmission.

We have recommended using an encrypted connection when configuring email for a number of years, but users that have been with us for a very long time may still be using an older style of sending mail over an unencrypted connection.

Effective immediately, all users must use an encrypted connection when sending email. We support two secure options for configuring your outgoing (SMTP) mail:

  • Port 587 with encryption type: STARTTLS (the perferred method)
  • Port 465 with encryption type: SSL/TLS (the alternate method)

If your email client is currently configured to use port 25 or 1025, you will need to update your the account settings in your email software to continue sending email.

We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a secure and reliable email service. If you have any questions or need assistance updating your email settings, please open a support ticket.
